After exploring shapes and recognizing that shapes either have sides or no sides, children are introduced to recognizing 2-dimensional (flat) shapes and 3-dimensional shapes (solid). They will get to visually see that shapes are “flat” or “solid”. They will be introduced to cube, cylinder, sphere, cone, rectangular prism (cuboid), square based pyramid. They’ll be able to do a follow up activity where they can sort 3-dimensional shapes. The aim is to reinforce the names of the 3-dimensional shapes and to recognize that they are in a solid form.
